British Standards are standards that were set up to ensure the quality of goods and services. Locks conforming to British Standards meet specific criteria and are more secure and cannot easily be opened. These are usually 5 lever locks with specifications such as longer bolt throw increasing the lock strength.
Many insurance companies require British Standard locks for entrance and exit doors. Although sometimes referred to as a Chubb lock, most brand-name lock manufacturers provide locks conforming to BS3621. British Standard locks can be recognised by the BS kitemark stamp. It can usually be found on the lock plate when the door is open, either just above or below the bolt.
